Melbourne Coffee Review Gets your cafe the attention it deserves!
WHO IS MCR?
MCR has been reviewing great cafes and coffee since 2004. We pioneered the coffee and café review system globally, and were the first business in the world (as far as we know) to launch a smart phone app, in fact we even went one step further and connected the smart phone applications live to our database, which means new cafes appear dynamically on users phones. In the years since we have reviewed hundreds of cafes and literally thousands of coffees. We subsequently developed a process to receive new café nominations and progress them via votes, comments and reviews so we could identify the best cafes to actually review.
WHAT DOES REGISTERING A CAFÉ WITH MCR GIVE YOU?
Simply, your café becomes a nominee for the annual Top 100, it can be voted on by your customers via SMS or the web and, it is profiled on the café section of MCR. There is no cost to the café owners and we use the votes to create out Top 100 candidate list.
HOW WE CHOOSE THE TOP 100?
At the end of each year we list all the cafes on the database identify the ones with the most votes (see vote instructions below). If we haven’t reviewed the café or it’s been a while, or in fact if we feel that the café needs a new review we do it. We don’t rank based on the votes, we simply allocate our bean ratings based on a review template we use that takes into account the coffee, the café, the service and the customer experience among other things.
WHAT DOES AN MCR SUBSCRIPTION GIVE YOU?
A full subscription to MCR profiles your café on our main smart phone apps. This includes a photo, coffee brand, opening times and more. It also enables the ‘near me’ feature allowing users to geolocate your café based on where they are or where they are going. All details on Subscriptions are here My Cafe.
VOTING FOR CAFES
How to vote for a café.
There are three ways to vote for a café,
1. Via the MCR web site
2. Via SMS
3. Via your smart phone.
Voting via the web site.
Log into http://hotshots.melbournecoffeereview.com (registration is free) and find the café that you want to vote for using the search window. Click on the title of the café to see the profile and you’ll see a button that says “Vote For This Café”. Press the button and you are done. You’ll only be able to do that for the café once per annum (1st Oct to 30th Sep then the votes reset).
Voting via SMS.
Each café has a unique number on MCR. It is visible on all the listings (web or phone, eg: MCR 222). MS this number to the following mobile – 0416 905 522.
Voting Via iPhone, Andriod Phone or Windows Phone 7.
Find the café you want to vote for, make sure you are registered on our system and logged in, and you’ll see a ‘vote for this café’ option on the profile. Vote away, and again, you can do this once per annum.
If you are very passionate, the maximum votes you can register are 3, via each platform.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What happens if good cafes opt not to be subscribers? Cafes get nominated by anyone, including our team and customers. If the café gets a high rate of comments and reviews then we will review them, give them a bean rating, and include them in the Top 100 based on their merit. What it simply means is that they can’t access their record to update changes and opt into the additional features full subscribers get. If they sell their café, again, they can’t change the ownership until they do subscribe.
What if you are already listed as a Top 100 or 500? Yep, anyone who is up already will still have their café visible. Any changes through, you’ll need to subscribe and make them yourself. If you don’t, that’s kool, your café will be considered for the next Top 100 on its merits and we will update the main details as part of that process, but as above, you will not be able to update your record or access the new features.
Hey, I’ve already paid up, you gonna charge me more? No, we value our relationship with you. Anyone who has paid up their subscription as at 30th June 2011 will move to a full listing for 12 months, after that you’ll receive a notification to renew your subscription.
