Coffee Shop - Jerry’s Milk Bar

Away from the strip shops and bustle of greater Elwood, Jerry’s Milk Bar has been a popular local meeting spot since it morphed into a cafe in the late 1990s. Built in 1917, it has retained a 1950s facade for decades. Neighbourhood artwork, milkshakes served in metal cups and a curved glass lolly counter stocked with Redskins and Sherbet Bombs reinforce the nostalgia trip. The busy Wega machine and reggae music create a loud backdrop to an even noisier crowd and intermingling staff. This relaxed service is appreciated by locals, but can make newcomers feel slightly unwelcome. The Genovese-blend espresso is dark, rich and strong with cocoa overtones. A flat white will pack a gentle chocolate punch, too.
