Frankston's Vada Cafe has a legion of fans, including residents of the urban slums of Papua New Guinea. It's also pretty popular with Frankston folk, who know that their daily caffeine fix supports the Gateway Children's Fund in PNG. This simple shopfront cafe, with timber chairs, glossy floors and evocative photographs of Papuan villagers, was founded by Rick Paynter on return from missionary service in PNG. He named it after one of the poorest settlements in Port Moresby. The Cafe uses Fairtrade, organic beans from growers in PNG's mountainous provinces, custom roasted by Convent Bakery Melbourne. The results are evident in intense, aromatic espressos and elegant cafe lattes with nutty, caramel overtones. The cafe also boasts its own Chefs who produce fresh food daily for hungry customers.
